I’m C.J.
Director of Graphics & Data Visuals
at the Star Tribune
in Minneapolis, Minn.
At the largest news organization in the Midwest, my roles have evolved from digital production and audience analytics to data and visuals. Now, I manage a team of graphics reporters and data-driven journalists to find unique visual ways to reach Minnesotans on the issues that matter to them.
In 2023, I was proud that this work led to our newsroom’s first infographics team portfolio Award of Excellence nod from the Society for News Design. Our work is also an integral partner to the robust reporting in our investigations and longform journalism.
I enjoy finding creative visual solutions to sticky data problems or complex topics, for every platform we publish on — and managing the people and workflows to make it all happen on deadline. Charts and maps aren’t just pretty to look at — they elevate the journalism we do and engage readers who might otherwise keep scrolling.
